About Mighty Marigold Counseling
Mighty Marigold Counseling was started based on the idea that there is no perfect place or time for growth and healing.
Have you ever been hiking in the mountains and see a flower growing out of what appears to be a sheet of pure rock? There isn’t any dirt, water or really anything that would make sense for growing a flower. This is a mountain, not a garden. Yet, there the flower is, boldly growing anyway.
Maybe you don’t live near the mountains so this concept doesn’t resonate. The same story can be told for walking down the sidewalk. How many times have you been walking down the street and - there it is - a flower that has found it’s way through the cracks in the pavement and dares to stretch towards the sun. The conditions are not ideal and certainly aren’t perfect. Yet, perfection isn’t required in order to grow.
“Dare to stretch towards the sun.”
Services
Perinatal Therapy
Perinatal therapy focuses on supporting people during infertility, pregnancy and the first year after childbirth. It helps manage mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and stress related to becoming a parent, as well as healing from birth trauma or loss. The therapy also addresses identity shifts that often occur as individuals adjust to their new roles. By providing emotional support and guidance, perinatal therapy promotes healthy parent-infant bonding and helps parents navigate the significant changes and pressures of this period, improving overall well-being for both parent and baby.
Annual Mental Health Check In
We check in with our physical health at least once a year, why don't we prioritize our mental health in the same way? An annual mental health check in takes stock on how you manage stress, conflict, relationships, explores your values and reviews how in alignment you are with your life goals. It's a reflective, honest inventory of how you are living your life and offers to identify any changes or adjustments you might want to make.
Individual Therapy
Sometimes, the life you’ve imagined doesn’t turn out quite the way you expected. Whether you’re navigating a major transition—like graduation, job hunting, moving, the loss of a loved one, or becoming an empty nester—or struggling with anxiety, depression, or past trauma, therapy can offer valuable support and guidance.

Hi!
I’m Emily.
I am a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) and have been working in the counseling field since 2012. The therapeutic modalities I draw upon include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (including Trauma-Focused CBT and adapted CBT for neurodiverse communities), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Feminist Theory (aims to understand the nature of gender inequality and acknowledges systems of oppression that impact us all).
I started Mighty Marigold Counseling with the intention of providing compassionate, welcoming and helpful therapeutic support. This is counseling for people finding themselves in unexpected or challenging circumstances in which they are experiencing emotional stress. The name of the practice is to honor the process of growing in and through whatever circumstance you find yourself. Perfection and optimal situations are not required for growth. AKA - you are allowed to be a human.
Outside of the counseling chair, I am always on the go adventuring with two amazing kiddos. I’m a lover of languages, fantasy books, sarcasm and a well placed curse word. I am a midwest transplant loving the beach vibes of California and occasionally missing the midwestern snow. As a former musical theater kid, show tune lyrics will probably find their way into our counseling sessions.

A professional therapeutic relationship where we work together to promote your mental health and overall wellbeing. It is a supportive, empathetic space to be able to really talk about what’s going on in your life, heart and mind. We’ll talk about your goals, your values and what’s working or not working for you currently. I draw heavily upon the wellness model where we talk about how various categories of your life can impact you. These dimensions include environmental, social, financial, spiritual, educational/occupational, physical, intellectual and emotional.
My perspective is that our history and present experience are all impacted by these factors and should be taken into account in how we are feeling and functioning. Part of my lens is acknowledging the systems that exist and impact us all.
If you are into psychology and specific modalities, I use CBT/TF-CBT (also, adapted CBT for individuals with developmental disabilities), Feminist Theory lens, Motivational Interviewing, IFS concepts and strengths based approaches.

The term perinatal refers to the period from when someone is considering growing their family to about one year postpartum. This includes individuals who have faced fertility challenges, miscarriage, perinatal loss, termination for medical reasons (TFMR), difficult pregnancies, birth trauma, or struggles with adjusting to parenthood and the postpartum period. Perinatal specialists are trained to understand these unique experiences and the complex emotions that come with them. They provide tailored support and coping strategies, helping individuals process grief, manage anxiety or depression, and navigate the challenges of this significant life transition. Working with a perinatal specialist can promote emotional healing, strengthen parent-infant bonding, and improve overall well-being for both parent and baby.
I received my Perinatal Mental Health - Certificate (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International and maintain the credential through continuing education and training

Nope. Most of my clients are perinatal clients but I see people for a variety of reasons. Life transitions, anxiety, grief and loss, depression, stress, parenting, relationships, career issues and existential dread of the current state of the world.
